Learn to build larger forms using simple techniques, improvisation, and play. We will build vases, pots, and other vessels which we will then manipulate into more organic forms and create surface textures on them using found objects. This class is for all skill levels: we will focus on using intuitive skills, then try pushing the limits of the clay a little further. This session will emphasize play and improvisational art making. Students should expect to make a vase or pot that is roughly 1' tall and will choose glaze colors for their vessel.

Instructed by Artist in Residence Alex DerGazarian

Alex DerGazarian is a multimedia sculptor and a native to Arkansas. She studied art at Hendrix College and moved to Fayetteville in 2020. She loves trying out new materials and experimenting with a wide range of ideas. Alex is often inspired by the ways simple elements can form complicated, organized, and beautiful designs–but then likes to introduce a bit of chaos into the mix. Her other projects include quilting, textile work, painting, cooking and baking, and finding new life in upcycled materials.
