Learn the basics of pottery on the wheel in this 6-week beginner class!
This class is structured with a more intensive curriculum with the goal of teaching future potters. Similar to a college level course, students will receive assignments during the course to achieve. There is room to have fun and experiment with pottery, but our intention with this class is to send students off with practical skills to chase the world of pottery!
We will cover:
- hand wedging
- centering on the wheel
- throwing basic forms
- how to glaze
We will learn these basics through three projects:
- bud vases or trinket bowls
Students will be provided with:
-a 12lb bag of clay (more than enough to complete in class assignments)
-all necessary tools
We recommend bringing your own towels, rags, or aprons.
Classes begin the week of JANUARY 10th
evening classes instructed by Sophia Roberts
morning classes instructed by K Fitzgerald
The class will meet weekly. The class will meet for 6 consecutive weeks beginning on the date listed, and access to studio work hours will last up to the final class meeting. The wheel class includes 2hrs of group instruction per week, 6 hrs of studio work time per week, and access to all equipment and materials needed for throwing pottery. All firing, clay and tools for class projects are provided in the class.
We look forward to having you in! If you have any questions visit our FAQ here.
All tools and clay are provided for class, but if you wish to have your own tool set you may purchase it here.
During open studio hours students must purchase their own clay, and will be allotted firing service punch cards included with the class. Students may purchase more firing space for open studio hours as needed. Students may use studio tools and glazes during open studio hours. (This will all be explained in detail during the first class, don't worry. Most students don't have an issue staying under the allotted firing amount.)
Note: We are taking extra precautions to make sure that everyone is safe and healthy in our space. Tools and equipment are being sanitized between each use. Studio work time outside of classes will be on a signup basis to ensure that the studio does not become overcrowded. Masks are encouraged but not required.
