Wheel Independent Study: Advanced Pottery Development
Instructor-Guided Studio Sessions
Take your wheel throwing practice to the next level in this 6-week independent study program! Designed for students who have completed Wheel II and want to refine their skills before transitioning to open studio membership, this course provides personalized guidance while you work toward your individual ceramics goals.
Schedule & Access
- Classes meet once per week for 6 consecutive weeks
- The first class begins on the selected start date, with subsequent classes occurring on the same day of the week
- Each session includes 2 hours of instructor-guided studio time
- Students have unlimited studio access through the Sunday following the final class
- All students must complete a waiver before utilizing the studio
Course Structure
This independent study format allows you to:
- Work on personal projects with instructor guidance
- Receive one-on-one throwing assistance
- Troubleshoot challenging forms
- Perfect your centering and throwing techniques
- Develop consistency in form and size
- Explore advanced throwing methods based on your interests
Prerequisites
- Completion of Wheel II or equivalent experience
- Ability to center clay independently
- Basic understanding of trimming and finishing techniques
- Familiarity with studio equipment and safety procedures
Available Support
- Expert instructor guidance for technique refinement
- Form-specific troubleshooting
- Glaze and surface decoration consultation
- Help with developing your personal style
- Technical support for complex forms
- Feedback on work in progress
Materials Included
- 12.5 pounds of clay
- Access to all studio equipment
- Firing services (pieces will be completed approximately two weeks after the last class)
- Use of studio glazes and tools
What to Bring
We recommend bringing your own:
- Towels
- Rags
- Apron
- Tools you're comfortable using
- Sketchbook for planning and notes
Additional clay is available for purchase if needed.
