Sculptural Ceramics: Form, Light & Rhythm

Explore the expressive potential of clay in this 6-week sculptural ceramics course! This class is designed for intermediate students interested in creating contemporary ceramic sculpture while drawing inspiration from historical and modern ceramicists.
Schedule & Access
- Classes meet once per week for 6 consecutive weeks
- The first class begins on the selected start date, with subsequent classes occurring on the same day of the week
- Each session includes 2 hours of group instruction
- Students have unlimited studio access through the Sunday following the final class
- All students must complete a waiver before utilizing the studio
Course Projects
Students will create three sculptural works exploring different artistic elements:
- Form & Space: A sculptural piece using Kuriniki techniques, investigating positive and negative space
- Light & Shadow: A slab-constructed sculpture designed to capture and interact with light
- Rhythm & Pattern: A coil-built piece exploring repetition and visual movement
Throughout the course, we'll examine works by influential ceramic artists, both historical and contemporary, to inform our understanding of sculptural possibilities in clay.
Materials Included
- 25lbs Clay
- All necessary tools and equipment
- Firing services (pieces will be completed approximately two weeks after the last class)
- Access to all studio equipment
What to Bring
We recommend bringing your own:
- Towels
- Rags
- Apron
- Sketchbook and pencil for design development
Additional clay is available for purchase if needed.
